Taproom Manager

Job Summary: We are seeking a motivated individual to join our management team who can help elevate our Taproom / Beer Garden experience to new levels of excellence. This position works closely with the management team and our front-of-house crew to deliver exceptional service, identify and address problems as they arise, and bring new ideas for growth and increased revenue from on-site retail operations. Strong communication skills, being able to work on and lead a team, and a willingness to learn new skills are all key characteristics of a successful candidate. Previous experience working on a team in hospitality or customer service is crucial, and previous managerial experience is preferred (but not required). The position reports to the General Manager and Co-Founder/Head Brewer.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Serve as legal Manager on Duty (MOD) for several Beer Garden / Taproom shifts per week, in part or in full (approximately 15-20 hours per week), and promote a welcoming, respectful, and accessible atmosphere for all guests
  • Administrative duties onsite and offsite (20 hours per week)
  • Ensure safe and legal delivery of alcohol to appropriate guests, following all local and state laws and industry best practices for responsibly serving our beer
  • Appearing as a designated manager on city liquor license and one-day alcohol permits for special events
  • Maintain working knowledge of point-of-sale (POS) system, front-of-house physical plant operations, beer delivery systems, and technology related to serving and selling beer
  • Service, clean and maintain draft beer systems
  • Maintain regular taproom staff shift schedules including subs for needed time-off or illness
  • Supervise Taproom / Beer Garden staff, and proactively direct staff in the performance of their duties, offering guidance and correction as necessary
  • Maintain up-to-date Beer Garden / Taproom beer menus and event listings
  • Assist with hiring, on-boarding and training of any new Taproom / Beer Garden staff
  • Produce regular sales reports to analyze sales and strategize for increased taproom revenue (in conjunction with managerial team)
  • Handle weekly taproom payroll report and tips distribution
  • File weekly time punch sheets to HR for non-salaried payroll employees
  • Ability to work a variable shift schedule that is dependent upon the last-minute staffing needs of the Taproom / Beer Garden and special events
  • Ability to cover Assistant Taproom Manager and General Manager tasks when needed to cover time-off, vacations, etc.
  • Provide support and/or attend off-site events/festivals when possible
  • Demonstrate a professional and engaged demeanor at all times and treat every employee, customer, vendor, and/or client with dignity and respect in all interactions
  • Continue brewery efforts to increase taproom staff and customer diversity
  • Perform weekly and monthly inventory of beer, beverage, snack, merchandise, soft goods, and service items
  • Work with Sales & Logistics Manager to ensure taproom has adequate beer inventory
  • Be able to lift and carry 40lbs and effectively maneuver (but never solo lift) up to 175lb kegs of beer
  • Willing to perform other duties as needed, desired and assigned
  • Crowd Control Manager Certification and TIPS training will be required as part of the position but may be obtained after hire

Preferred Knowledge & Skills:
Minimum of 21 years of age and previous “front of house” hospitality or customer service setting experience, and managerial experience is required.

Must be self-motivated, know how to identify potential service issues and intervene effectively, have excellent written skills and good verbal communication. This position also requires good time management and multi-tasking skills, as well as the ability to lead a team of individuals working together to deliver a superb experience. Candidates must be proficient in MS Office software, including Excel and Word, Google Suite, as well as social media and communication apps to stay apprised of company news and events.
